Cisco Switches: Catalyst 2940, 2950/2955, 2960, 2970, 3550, 3560, 3750, 2900XL/3500XL factory reset

Step 1: Establish a console connection to the switch using a Cisco serial cable to your pc or laptop. 

 Step 2: Download and install putty SSH & Telnet client in your PC or Laptop..

Click here to download putty

Step 3: Click on Putty.exe
 Select "Serial" on it...

Now use following parameters:

 Click Open...




Step 4: Turn on the switch. Continuously press mode button on switch until you see,

Step 5: Write flash_init command to initialize flash on the switch

Step 6: Now write


rename flash:config.text flash:config.old 

Step 7: Now write

boot
 to reboot the switch
 

 Step 8: Now write
en 

 Step 9: Now write 

rename flash:config.old flash:config.text


 Step 10: Now write 

write erase

Press Yes to erase nvram... 

Switch is now reset to factory default....




 Use
show hardware
sh ver 
 commands to get image & processor detail



 Use
sh env all
 command to see fan status and temperature of switch
